The Five Questions Worth Asking In Every TEA
A basic Technology Experience Assessment can be structured around five questions. The answers will tell you more than most technical audits:
- What’s on each team’s technology roadmap for the next 12–18 months — and does the other team know about it?
- What are floor workers actually experiencing day-to-day that hasn’t been formally escalated as a problem?
- Where does your current infrastructure have capacity or compatibility constraints that could affect planned deployments?
- When things go wrong, how are they resolved — root cause fixes or workarounds? How many open workarounds exist right now?
- What would have to be true about your data infrastructure for your AI or automation initiatives to succeed?
The last question is increasingly important. AI initiatives require clean, continuous, structured operational data. If the answer to that question exposes gaps in data collection, consistency, or governance, it’s far better to find that out during a planning assessment than six months into an AI implementation.
When To Do It
Now is the right time. Planning cycles are open, teams are available for structured conversations, and there’s still runway to address what the assessment surfaces before commitments are locked in.
An assessment done in Q4 produces a roadmap that informs Q1 investment decisions. An assessment done after those decisions are made is a much harder conversation.
