Part 1: The challenge

This case study focuses on a manufacturer of industrial goods that employs more than 1,400 professionals worldwide. This company’s vast service fleet totals more than 200 technicians.

The manufacturer was struggling with tracking inventory in the field for field service professionals. A well-known software company addressed their business performance issues. They were determined to find a solution, one that prevented unneeded paperwork and field errors. One of the largest challenges was finding the right device. It had to be portable, rugged and easy to use—with a sufficient screen size for operators. It also needed bar coding and scanning capabilities.

The first stage of the project was choosing the Zebra ET-1. This enterprise tablet was the only device that met the required criteria.

Midway through the project, AbeTech was able to provide assistance and value for a successful pilot launch of the hardware. The manufacturer had the ability to purchase products directly from AbeTech, who could also provide professional services, OS updates and hot-swap capabilities.

AbeTech came to the rescue with a comprehensive solution that met their unique challenges.

Part 3: The stunning result

AbeTech’s involvement allowed this manufacturer to achieve so much. They successfully deployed devices in a working environment. In addition, the manufacturer can count on a solid support model to sustain lifecycle management with minimal downtime. AbeTech’s support program allows them to receive a replacement within 24-48 hours.

How does this work? If a device breaks down, AbeTech immediately ships a new product—pre-configured and activated—directly to the technician. It comes from the client-owned spare pool in AbeTech’s warehouse. After getting repaired by Zebra, the device is configured and placed back in the spare pool.

Thanks to AbeTech, this manufacturer can successfully deliver a field service application to more than 200 field technicians—with minimal risk and downtime.
