An internet giant reminds us why security must be a priority
Like many people, I use eBay. An 18th century leatherbound book, a venerable stereo receiver that looks just like the one my dad used to have, and the perfect lamp to go with my basement decor are just a few of the things that I’ve purchased through that site in the last fifteen years. So that’s why this headline strikes fear in my heart:

eBay, in case you aren’t familiar with the online auction site, is one of the most popular destinations on the internet. In fact, it’s the seventh most popular in the United States. It receives millions of visitors every day, with the average amount of money being spent and made on their auctions reaches well into the nine figure range. As such, they take security very seriously, but as that story illustrates, the smallest lapse can end up revealing vital information on your business and customers to anyone with a laptop and a wi-fi connection.
This is a risk none of us can afford to make.
Keep this in mind when making decisions for your company. Does the supplier of your computers and mobile devices consider security to be a top priority? Do they design their products with the safety of your confidential information in mind?
